As for the things that you don’t want to do with Zen; the following will help you to get a better grasp on Zen (the art of meditation). You’ll first want to keep in mind that meditation is not something that you’ll want to obsess over. You need to understand when enough is enough. It’s much like exercising. There are people who will meditate for hours, but you’ll find that it is best that you give yourself ten minutes or so to focus on meditation. You’ll also want to let it go when you forget to do a session. Just because you didn’t get to meditate today doesn’t mean that you are a bad person. You’ll just need to refocus another time (a better time). Also, you should allow yourself to sleep through it if you feel the need. You don’t ever want to fight sleep because it will ruin your body’s inner time clock. You’ll need to make sure that you are calm and relaxed too. This means that you don’t want to listen to heavy metal music while trying to meditate. You also don’t want to be uncomfortable. You need to think about things like your position and your clothing.
Deeper Level
On a deeper level, you don’t want to hide your emotions. If you feel like crying, then you need to cry. If you are under the influence of anything you will not want to meditate. If you meditate under the influence you will only be harming yourself and also you may end up seriously injuring yourself. You will need to consider things like your mental state. You don’t want to meditate if you hear voices or are schizophrenic.
As for some of the things that you do want to do, you’ll need to stay positive through everything. You will need to experiment in positions that you meditate to. You’ll find that it is best that you stay as comfortable as possible. You’ll need to keep in mind that when you meditate, you need to start off with some type of training. You don’t want to fake or make something like this up. You’ll also find that if you meditate and do not medicate you’ll become a happier person. Also, keep in mind that when you play some mood music you’ll be able to control your feelings. You’ll want to meditate whenever you are feeling overwhelmed and also on a regular basis so that you can benefit greatly from Zen training. You’ll also want to consider changing it up like an exercise routine. You don’t want to bore yourself.
Finally, you need to accept the people who are around you and yourself the way that nature has intended.
